Demo/Review: Braided Cinnamon buns

Today I was making some cinnamon buns, but with a unique twist, quite literally. Braided cinnamon buns have a flavor that’s almost indistinguishable from the traditional ones; however, instead of simply placing the dough in a regular baking tray, there’s an extra step involved. This step requires braiding the dough strands together, similar to how you would braid hair, giving the buns a distinctive look and texture.

This video demonstrates how the braid comes together

The buns are braided in a similar way to how someone would braid hair, with the flat part of the dough being carefully used to hold the braids securely in place before baking. This is the only additional step compared to making regular buns. After that, you simply bake them like you would with any normal buns, brushing them with an egg wash to give them a shiny finish. Finally, you can decorate the buns however you prefer, adding your personal touch to complete the look.

The final product

As shown, the cinnamon bun is intricately braided into a sort of knot, allowing it to hold its shape beautifully. Additionally, as another delightful plus, every single bite is filled with a perfect balance of soft dough and flavorful cinnamon sugar spread.

Braiding cinnamon buns is a simple step that really takes their appearance up a notch. It gives them a uniquely made look that feels a bit more special and homemade compared to just rolling them up. The best part is that it doesn’t add much extra time or effort—just a few extra twists before baking. This little touch makes the buns look more impressive and inviting, perfect for sharing or just treating yourself. Plus, the braided shape can even help the cinnamon and sugar swirl more evenly throughout, making every bite taste better.
